For a time, Sanctuary was finally free from any interventions of the High Heavens or the Burning Hells, yet as is with Diablo’s nature, the Prime Evil soon gazed upon a growing city in Sanctuary with interest, plotting to corrupt it into becoming a conduit for Hell’s forces to invade the world.

Now finally at peace from the influences of both the High Heavens and Burning Hells, humans in Sanctuary are able to find their own path in life.

Still, Diablo continues to plot a way for his brethren to conquer Sanctuary as a whole, seeking to use them as a stepping stone for the powers of Hell to finally trump the angels in their war of the Eternal Conflict.

DIABLO, LORD OF TERROR: CHAPTER FOUR

For a time after the Sin War, people of Sanctuary began to prosper as they found ways to continue living without the interjections of both angels and demons.

One such community was of Ureh – the Light of all Lights – a city blessed with riches and wealth, its citizens full of health and happiness.

However, this caught the attention of the Lord of Terror, Diablo, and soon, he began to find ways of corrupting the proud people of the city, hoping to use them for his ends.

Instead of brute force, Diablo used cunning and subterfuge to manipulate the minds of the citizens and important folks.

Nevertheless, the most powerful of the city’s mages were aware of this and immediately banded to create powerful barriers around the city, halting Diablo’s advances.

While this may have stopped the demonic lord temporarily, he devised other ways to corrupt the city, this time tainting the land and wildlife surrounding Ureh, stopping foreign merchants from travelling there while also spoiling the encompassing resources.

Cleverly, Diablo used this ploy to his advantage, coming to the ruler of Ureh, Juris Khan, as visions of himself disguised as Archangel Mirakodus.

He manipulated Khan by deceiving him into doing his biddings, promising that the High Heavens have noticed the city’s plight from Diablo and seeks to save them by allowing the city to transcend into Heaven.

Through this, Diablo told them of a portal spell which would teleport Ureh there, but in reality, Ureh would subsequently be delivered to Hell while the portal will be used as a passage for demons to invade Sanctuary.

Amongst the high-ranking sorcerers of Ureh, Gregus Mazi was the first to uncover this scheme, and due to his major role in contributing to the spell’s success, he changed certain aspects of the ritual to stop Ureh from entering Hell but trapping the city in Limbo between planes.

Upon discovering Mazi’s purported betrayal, Khan expelled him from the city before they were all brought into the portal, leaving Mazi alone at Sanctuary while he saw his beloved city of Ureh vanish in front of his own eyes.

While Ureh continues to be suspended between Hell and Sanctuary, Diablo continued to corrupt every citizen inside the city unobstructed.

Diablo hopes to use the city again when the right time comes for someone in Sanctuary to unwittingly find a way to restore the city back into the world, letting him continue with his plan of Hell’s invasion upon the realm.

There is still a lot to talk about Diablo, so continue following us for Chapter Five of the demon lord’s backstory, coming soon!
